Day 5

April 20, 2010

Did we mention that we are having a blast? The trio spent the morning in Kingman, AZ and went to the Powerhouse Museum. We were all touched by a display of photos and a replica of a loaded down truck that was typically used to bring families west during the dustbowl era. Bob was especially moved since he came west with his family in the same way when he was a boy. We then had a guided tour of the 1915 Bonelli House and spent 15 minutes in a gravel parking lot. What? You guessed it...a mechanical glitch...this time it was Ted & Joan's Chevelle. Luckily it was only a loose gasline and Ted fixed it in a jiffy. We followed that with lunch at Mr. D's Route 66 Diner. Kathy had Oprah's special: cheeseburger with onion rings and home made root beer and a few splurged on delicious milkshakes.

We traveled along on Route 66 through hills and dessert towns of Hackberry, Peach Springs and Seligman. Along the way of course, were abandoned motels, gas stations and various autos. Our favorite part was meeting the people who live and work in these towns. Some of them are real characters!

Our destination for today was Williams, AZ where we will spend two nights. Tomorrow we ride on the Grand Canyon Railroad train to spend the day at the south rim of the canyon. Our first "iffy" weather seems to be imminent. They are predicting snow showers in the canyon.

We hope you are enjoying our trip along with us.
