Getting Our Kicks On Route 66
The Trio

Day 1: We had to throw out a couple hundred pounds of Donna's makeup according to Bob so the tires on Bob's pickup would quit rubbing...too much weight! Just kidding...but for real, the tire was rubbing. So we had a few unscheduled stops: we only made it 20 miles out of Gresham and had to stop in Govt. Camp for minor technical difficulties; stop in Madras at Les Schwab Tire and then a stop in Bend at Baxter Auto Parts. We finally tried what our Oregon Trail ancestors did: start taking things out of the truck. We shifted a toolbox and a suitcase to other vehicles and we were on our way again. We all just laughed and made incredible time anyway. Our "maybe" goal was to arrive in Susanville, CA and we made it by 6:30 pm in spite of all our stops. The guys are tired, but we had a great steak dinner and got a clean motel with no problems. Bob lead the pack today, so Ted and Gary just "drafted" all day. Ted even got 20mpg on the last leg today! Did I mention it was the FORD that had technical issues today?

  1. Looks like the guys overloaded Bob's truck trying to sneak in too much fishing gear and tried to shift the blame on Donna! Love the pictures!

  2. Can't be. The FORD? It's a fluke. Gotta be a fluke.
