Day 2:

Today it was Gary's turn to have well....what he would call a 15-minute glitch. He wouldn't say he broke down. The '55 started acting like it was running out of gas. So, he opend the trunk, got the spare parts out and fixed it in 15 minutes. It needed a new fuel filter. It had nothing to do with it being a Chevy.
We left Susanville, Ca and then crossed the border to Nevada and went to Virginia City, Nevada, which for those of you who haven't been there, is a touristy old western town. It was a great scenic drive and then we headed south and had lunch, courtesy of Bob and Donna, at a city park in Carson City, Nevada. Bob grilled hamburgers and hotdogs.
It ended up being a pretty long day and we crossed the border again back into Northern California. We all wanted to make it to Barstow, CA tonight, but the guys were very tired. We saw so much beautiful country today. We wanted to go to Yosemite and Bodie (a ghost town), but the roads were still closed. We saw some gorgeous scenery all along our route, including the Mammoth Lakes area. Snow was still very close to the road, but the roads were clear and it was a sunny day.
We are staying in Lone Pine, CA tonight and will head to Barstow, our start of Route 66 tomorrow. We'll keep you posted as we get our kicks on Route 66.
